Escape from Playtime Co-op Guide

Escape from Playtime is built for 1-4 player online co-op, with solo supported. Squads split looting and hauling but share noise — and proximity voice chat means your voice is a game mechanic. This guide covers team sizes, roles, and the voice discipline that separates squads that bank from squads that wipe.

Pre-release version stamp

Written September 26, 2026 from official materials. Revive rules and scaling numbers will be confirmed in the beta.

Team Sizes

Size Strengths Weaknesses
Solo Silent, full loot share, no coordination cost No revives, slow hauling, no lookout
Duo Fast, quiet, easy coordination One down ends the run
Trio Best balance: scout, carrier, guard Needs real callouts
Quad Maximum coverage and hauling Loudest, hardest to coordinate

Trio is the learning sweet spot: every core role filled, noise manageable, one mistake survivable. Quads should split into buddy pairs.

Squad Roles

Role Job Best paired with
Scout Clears rooms first, calls loot and patrols Carrier behind
Carrier Hauls; never enters uncleared rooms Guard watching
Rear guard Watches the back trail, calls retreats Everyone
(4th) Floater Reinforces pressure points Whoever is loudest

Rotate the carrier duty — it is the most boring and most important job. Resentment wipes more squads than hunters.

Proximity Voice: The Rules

Mob's own warning is literal — careless talking can get the squad killed. The discipline:

  1. One talker at a time. Overlapping voices mask hunter audio cues.
  2. Three-word callouts. "Contact left." "Loot here." "Moving now." Full sentences are for the lobby.
  3. Whisper positions. Agree shorthand: "A" (loot room), "B" (exit route), "C" (rally).
  4. Silence near doors. Nobody talks while the scout peeks.
  5. Dead players stay useful. Call what you see, not how you feel — and keep it short.
Push-to-talk wins runs

Open mics broadcast breathing, keyboards, and panic. Bind push-to-talk before October 1 and test it in the lobby — see the playtest guide.

Tactics by Phase

Phase Squad play
Drop Confirm roles, rally point, and exit direction in 15 seconds
Search Buddy pairs minimum; solo scouting only with a check-in timer
Haul Carrier guarded on both sides; scout leapfrogs ahead
Pressure Collapse to the rally point — do not scatter
Extract Count heads out loud, then commit together

Revives and Downs (To Confirm)

Revive mechanics, down-state timers, and whether dead players spectate or respawn are unconfirmed. Play on wipe-rules assumptions: a downed player is a liability you choose to afford, and a double down is a lost run. Numbers go here after the beta.

FAQ

Is crossplay confirmed?

No crossplay statement exists — the only confirmed platform is Steam. Assume Steam-only squads.

Can I join randoms?

Matchmaking details are unconfirmed. Discord LFG is the reliable path for the beta.

Does difficulty scale with squad size?

Scaling systems are unconfirmed. Expect more loot pressure with more players by genre logic — verify in beta.

Who should be the leader?

The calmest talker, not the best aimer. DogDay players have the thematic mandate — take it.

How do we practice before October 1?

Read the beginner guide, agree callouts with your group, and bind push-to-talk now.
